Using Cruelty-Free Products for a Month

If you are reading this, then you’re probably interested in cruelty-free products! That’s good news! Because here are some products that I’ve been testing for honest reviews.

Let’s start with the products I liked + loved.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer

I’ve actually been using this long before trying the whole “cruelty-free” thing.

What I loved about it:

The smell. Ohmygosh. It smells just like a tropical dream. Perfect bronze color for any skin tone. The texture and consistency is a-mazing!

How I used it:

It came with a little sponge-looking brush, but I’ve honestly used it maybe twice. I find it much easier to use a little blush brush or angled contour brush.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

There is a myth going around saying that Smashbox makeup is tested on animals, but from the parental brand, Estee Lauder, they do not in fact test on animals.

What I loved about it:

I loved that it didn’t have a strong fragrance, it’s very calm and fresh. I loved that it prolonged my makeup throughout the day!

How I used it:

Gently spray at least a foot away from the face. And let air dry! Spray before you apply makeup and after.

Physicians Formula Rx Concealer

This concealer shocked me.

What I loved about it:

I was glancing around the store looking through the cruelty-free brands I know of, and saw this. When I tested it out at home I was pleasantly surprised that it covered really good.  It works amazingly for covering and brightening up areas. It is quite thick though.

How I used it:

I squeezed some on my hand and used a round brush. Once applied on face, blend out with a beauty blender.

Physicians Formula Organic Lash Boosting Mascara

The mascara is awesome! It really lengthens my lashes and doesn’t make it too flakey.

What I loved about it:

It was very voluminous in a way, that you could tell it wasn’t as harsh as some mascaras can be.

How I used it:

Apply on once on top, while it dries, apply on bottom lashes. If needed, I give the top another coat.

e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Face Primer

What I liked about it:

The neutralizing works great. My cheeks are very rosy, which is why I tend to not wear a lot of blushes. So the green color balances out my red tones.

What I didn’t like about it:

It applies very easily, a bit too easily. Once you put it on and try to blend in other things it’s not going to work. Unless you let your face dry 10-15 minutes before putting anything on, it might work easier. But who’s got that much time to spare when getting ready? Not me! I also noticed that it doesn’t let any other product to absorb into my skin and blend like normal. I know, that a primer kinda does that anyway. But using this, it looks as if I haven’t used anything on my face at all and my other makeup is caking up on top.

How I used it:

I pumped a couple times on my hand and coated the primer evenly with my other hand.

Physicians Formula Organic Jumbo Lash Mascara

What I liked about it:

I like that it was cruelty-free? The packaging is cute too. I remember liking this when I was younger because I thought it was so cute and it applied so pretty. But compared to other mascaras, this one is no comparison.

What I didn’t like about it:

It stunk. Like soured plastic, if only plastic could sour.

It flaked off really bad and would smear, so every time I would go to wipe underneath my eyes it would only make it worse. Would not recommend rubbing your eyes accidentally with this on.

How I used it:

Apply on once on top, while it dries, apply on bottom lashes. If needed, I give the top another coat.

Overall, I’m glad I found out about these products. Will I be cruelty-free forever? Um, probably not. But it does put some light into the beauty industry. Some products and brands that I thought were cruelty-free were not and some that were, I didn’t think they were.
